D & D Family U-Pick Farms, Palm City, Stuart FL

Description

D & D Family U-Pick Farms is a lovely place to get your vegetables and then let your child play for a while. It makes for a good Saturday morning excursion. When you first enter, it all looks a bit rugged, but that is part of the fun- this is authentic! You take a bucket and go out to the fields to choose from fresh, sweet veggies of all kinds: lettuce, onions, tomatoes, strawberries, bell peppers. Bring a knife to cut the lettuce with. Kids absolutely love to help you choose the best vegetables and strawberries, and get so excited about their harvest! You go back to the barn to pay for your produce and entrance fee, and to buy a bucket of veggies for the petting zoo! The petting zoo is a blast! Here roosters crow while you feed fresh lettuce and carrots to goats and cows. There is a cute tightrope walk to a house in the sky for the goats. Afterwards, kids can play make-believe in the train, throw hoops over wooden horses, throw balls on string over racks, climb to the top of a giant slide, be king of a giant mountain of tractor tires, ride around on mini-tractors, and swing on tires, ropes, and baby swings. This is like childhood was meant to be: kids free in the fields looking for rustic random things to climb and explore. When you see your child's face light up you know you've had them in suburbia and organized activities too long.
Although this farm is not organic, they use no herbicides (this is great!) and they avoid the harshest pesticides since they must protect their bees and also their u-pickers.
Special event days draw larger crowds to the farm, such as Thanksgiving festival and Breakfast with Santa.
After visiting this farm, have lunch at Pei Wei Asian Diner (fast counter service) or Chipotle Mexican Grill in Stuart, and then play on the playground and walk through a jungle paradise at Halpatiokee Park.
