De Valkenier Amusement Park, Valkenburg, The Netherlands

Description

De Valkenier is a cute amusement park that has been around for a long time. Dutch grandparents remember going here as kids. The park is nicely kept up, though, and doesn't look run down. The rides are situated around a pretty lake that kids can pedal boat in. There are also little hills in the distance that make it picturesque.
There are many rides to choose from, and rarely do you have to wait in line! This park is best for school aged kids and younger. There are clown mirrors that make you look fat or slim. There's a wave swing ride with chairs for two. Most of the rides are mild and not scary. A ride where you are high on a monorail, in little helicopter-style vehicles is fun for little kids. On the ferris wheel you can enjoy the scenery. Kids can pretend to ride a horse around a wild west scene. There's an imaginative indoor ride similar to a Disney ride, where animatronics entertain you. A ladybug rollercoaster is fun for more daring kids.
In a shady spot is a nice playground with a  yellow slide, a red slide off an elephant, swings under Mr. Tree, a slide off a camel, a car bouncy with steering wheel, and an awesome big disc swing. There are also regular swings (I love how the swings in Holland are flat rather than the painful ones you get in the US) and two recliner swings that look very comfortable.
The surfing ride spins you around a circle, like a town fair ride. A sled ride has two slides side by side that take you FAST down from a high height! There is a witch ride that takes six people up high and then drops them down. Kids love the rocket ship that you can walk inside. A train ride takes you through the town of Valkenburg.
There is also an indoor playground with ball pits and two storeys of roped in climbing. What fun! The carousel is unique- kids can ride in a bus on it!
Afterward, eat a meal in the cute old town of Valkenburg. Also, spend some time checking out the sandstone caves.
Another nice town 15 minutes drive away is Heerlen City Center.
Heerlen has a very fun and noisy indoor playground called Avonturenland.
