Old Mesilla Village, Las Cruces
Old Mesilla Village is full of atmosphere. The thick adobe walls in their soft, desert colors make you feel calm. Pretty things are everywhere: flowers, colorful Spanish-style decorations, fountains, statues. You know you are in New Mexico from the style of the decorations.
Walk around and choose a pretty cafe to eat in. We ate in Josefina's, which has a shady patio in the back with plants galore, trees, little alcoves in the wall with art, a Spanish fireplace, and sculptures. It feels so good sitting on their patio!
Go inside the adorable, brick Basilica of San Albino with its turquoise colored area behind the altar.
Walk around the square. If you're lucky there will be an event going on. There is a bandstand and benches where you can people-watch. Check out the touristy shops and the art galleries.
