It's pleasant to visit the small history museum inside Fort Conde, which is a 4/5 replica of the fort. The exhibits are well-done and the brick walls of the fort make a lovely backdrop.

The architecture is very cute, starting with the pale blue ironwork entrance gate decorated with fleur de lis designs. The brick walls and red doors of the fort look sweet.
Inside, the low ceiling makes for a cozy feel. There are exhibits with swords, compasses, maps, olive and glass jars, cannonballs, and anchors. A model of the fort, with little soldiers and a tiny flag, is endearing to kids. There is a lot of French history in this area, which you can read all about. From the courtyard you can see the three tall buildings of downtown Mobile.
Just a very short walk away, check out the beautiful History Museum of Mobile which has a great mardi gras exhibit and amazing miniature dollhouses.
Mobile is a very charming town, a smaller and more manageable New Orleans. Stroll along Dauphin Street to enjoy the historic southern architecture.
