Louisiana Children's Museum is a great place to get out of the heat and include some kids' activities in your vacation. It always improves the mood when kids get to have some time of their own in a place dedicated to their interests. From when they enter the fairytale blue doors, your kids know they're in for a treat! The highlight of the museum is the cafe where kids can cook you meals that look very real! They can serve it to you on the small chairs. The Winn-Dixie supermarket is another fun spot where kids can push small carts around choosing groceries and work a real cash register.

The Andrew Jackson sculpture outside St Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square is represented, but this time kids can sit on it themselves and strike a regal pose! There are little cute New Orleans-style houses in the square where kids can play. They can be an electrician or build columns in a design. And there's a Southern plantation where kids can pick vegetables and fruit, and play with pigs in a pig pen. A cypress swamp with rowboat and rustic house make another magical spot to play. There's a video in front of a motor boat and kids can pretend they are driving it. Older and younger kids enjoy this museum.
Because this museum is in the Arts District, a nice option is for one parent to visit a grown-up museum, like Ogden Museum of Southern Art (highly recommended) nearby while the other watches the kids. Why pay for two adult admissions when it's the kids that are having the fun?
While in New Orleans, make sure you visit Storyland, a magical place for kids where they can play in nursery rhyme sculptures under tall oak trees.
