Description
Trinity Park, adjacent to Duke East Campus, is a lovely neighborhood to walk around. Its tree-lined streets are filled with historic homes with sweet gardens. At Halloween and Christmastime, the decorations are great. Watts Street and Markham Ave are a good place to start your exploring!
The houses in Trinity Park were built around the 1900s and 1910s, in the style of asymmetrical two-story Colonial Revival boxes. Adorable wrap-around porches with columns are common, as are straight staircases leading up to the front door. A few houses still have their original stained glass windows- check out the Thaxton house at 212 Watts St.
After, check out the Georgian architecture and busy students at Duke East Campus and walk the trail that runs around the perimeter of campus, under tall beautiful trees.
Then have a cup of tea at Mad Hatter Cafe + Bakeshop, in the Whole Foods shopping plaza across Broad Street from the west side of campus. It's a fantastic cafe with huge windows, modern architecture, changing paintings, comfortable seating, and great food which you order at the counter. It is blissful to sit there taking in the youthful Durham vibe..
