Description
You can never go wrong with the beach. Although the beaches in the north of Florida (starting around Cocoa Beach) have more particles in the air that make the sky less clear, they are still pretty, full of birds and blessed with a cool breeze. The sand at Saint Augustine Beach is unusual because it contains red flecks. This delights kids! The entry to the water is shallow for a long time so kids can usually play at the shore without worrying about big waves.
People are allowed to drive their 4 X 4 automobiles to park on the sand- this is kind of tacky I think. Beaches should be left pristine and the dunes protected.
There are quite a few overweight people on this beach.
There is a cafe with a great patio overlooking the dunes called Beachcomber Restaurant. Kids can play with shovels and buckets in a sand pit while you eat!
Another beach in St. Augustine is Vilano Beach.
After enjoying the beach, walk around beautiful old town St. Augustine, an 18 minute drive away.
