Ala Wai Canal Walk, Waikiki, Oahu Hawaii

Description

You can walk for miles along the Ala Wai Canal! There is a long cement path the runs along both the north and south shores of Ala Wai Canal. The views of the mountains are beautiful, and at different times of day the light will cast different shadows in the grooves of the mountains. Early morning is lovely, and also makes for a cooler walk since there isn't much shade. You will pass many coconut trees and plumeria trees though. There are homeless people, and the sounds of traffic, since Waikiki is basically a city.
The walk follows the canal on both sides of it but I only tried the south side, near International Marketplace. I loved the views so much. While the crystal blue ocean receives much attention in Hawaii, the mountains are what really make Hawaii stand out!
Don't fall in the water because it is very polluted and is sometimes used as a sewer overflow. It can smell a little.
