Description
Champ de Mars is the park in front of the Eiffel Tower. Here you can enjoy fantastic views of the Eiffel Tower and take as many photos as you want! The area is kind of plain- it has the feel of fairgrounds. The lawn was formerly used for military drills. The ground is loose dirt in Champ de Mars. There is a huge lawn, but this area is not as lush as other parts of Paris.
At the south end of the park is a playground with plenty of fun things for kids to do. Here there is a carousel where kids can play the traditional French game that is so much fun. Each child has a stick and must catch the tiny rings that the ring master holds out. It's quite difficult, and makes the carousel more exciting!
The playground area has ping pong tables that teens enjoy. There are also rows of trees, allees, which create shade where kids gather to play ball. One of the toddler playgrounds is a small castle, with a bat painted on it, plus a spiderweb climby and square rope climby, all with a sandy floor. The other toddler structure is yellow and orange, and next to it is a pretend train. The big kids have two space-age play structures.
The best time to come to the Champ de Mars is at night because the Eiffel Tower is so much more impressive at night. To have a picnic on the lawn, while admiring the dazzling illuminated Eiffel Tower is a peak experience in life!
To the north of the Eiffel Tower is a two-storey carousel, and the Seine river. Cross over the river and you will come to the attractive Trocadero neighborhood which has some wonderful ethnic cafes.
