Mulligan's Lawn, Avila Beach Golf Resort
The huge lawn in front of Mulligan's Restaurant is a scenic spot where kids can run free and explore the driftwood on the river beach. As you drive to Mulligan's there are gorgeous panoramic views over Avila Beach. In spring, ice plant covers the entire bank above the parking lot. Pretty trees of all shades of green surround you. Avila Beach Golf Resort is a casual place that owns Mulligan's, a surf and turf style bar and grill, that offers live music. You can buy a drink and fries, and enjoy a few hours sitting on the lawn under the shade canopies. Bring a puffer jacket because you never know if it's hot or cold on the Central Coast. It's wonderful to stroll along the lawn and river beach, feeling the breeze off the water, and checking out the blue herons and white egrets that hunt for fish in the creek. The views are just epic, with the creamy blue-green water and the waves beyond. The architecture of the golf clubhouse is pretty too. Unfortunately, the live music is often the same style: 1970s rock with loud, clanging drums.
Note: The water in the creek comes from the San Luis Obispo sewer plant, so don't let your kids play in it!

Mulligan's is located in Avila Beach Golf Resort, at 6460 Ana Bay Rd, Avila Beach, CA. Parking is free. Sometimes you must wait for a parking space during the live music events, but generally if you park at the top of the parking lot you can find something.
