Monkey Jungle is a lush, tropical zoo with mostly monkeys. At the beginning you walk in a cage, basically a tunnel of wire fencing, where you can feed the monkeys raisins in little bowls that they pull up above you with a rope. It is cute to interact with the monkeys in this way, though a little gross because they can pee and poo on you from above. Some monkeys are in cages, and these ones gather the raisins that you pour down PVC piping into their cages. The white-handed gibbons are very cute here and my son adored them. 

As you make your way around the small circle that is the zoo, you encounter four different short shows, spaced in time one after the other. These are interesting and great to watch. Here is our experience of the shows:
The first was of an elderly female orangutan. She was cute because she kept messing up her tricks and then throwing her arms up in the air in exasperation. Then she gave up on performing them, but in the end, performed them all in one fast sequence just to get the treat she was expecting. Very funny! Her face was so expressive.
The second show was by a gorilla, King, who was rescued from an abusive circus. He didn't look too pleased to be performing his show, but did have a nice enclosure. It was kind of sad how he had to obey his trainer and keep standing on two feet even though gorillas don't like to do that. 
The third show involved many small squirrel monkeys in a very tropical jungly part of the forest. This was the grossest because they were running around over one's head and it just didn't seem sanitary. It was fun hearing about the howler monkeys and how they irritate the neighbors with noise every morning at 8am.
The last show was at the pond where monkeys play by the water.Don't visit before 11am because there are no shows before that and not much to do.There are a few extra exhibits at this zoo- a tortoise and a rhino iguana, plus some pet parrots  in large geodesic domes. You can look at these while you wait for the next show.There is plenty of shade. The food at the cafe is not yummy so eat beforehand. They do not allow you to bring your own raisins to feed the monkeys so plan on spending a few extra dollars to buy raisins.
The price was a little steep for this zoo. While in Homestead, make sure to go to Coral Castle, and Fruit and Spice Park. If you like animals, you will also enjoy Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter.
23 minutes north, have a delicious meal at Bahama Breeze and enjoy their live steel drum music!

Monkey Jungle is located at14805 SW 216th St, Miami FL 33170. 
From the Florida Turnpike southbound, take Highway 821 the Homestead Extension of the Turnpike. Take exit 11 at Cutler Ridge Blvd and turn right on Cutler Ridge Blvd. After almost a mile, turn left on US 1 (Dixie Hwy). After half a mile, turn right on 216th St. After 3 miles you will come to Monkey Jungle on the right. From Highway 821 (Homestead Extension of the Turnpike) northbound, take Exit 11 for 216th St and turn left on 216th St. After 4 miles, Monkey Jungle is on the right. Parking is free. 
Open daily 9:30-5. Ticket office closes at 4. Shows don't start until 11 so don't come earlier than that since there isn't much else to do. Admission is $30 for adults and children 10 and up, $24 for children aged 3-9, and $28 for seniors. Children under 3 enter for free. Look for coupons online and in tourist brochures found at hotel lobbies.
Monkey food (raisins) cost 75c per small box and they don't allow you to bring your own. Count on buying one box per person visiting.
Annual pass is $40 per adult, $30 per child.
