Tradewinds Park North in Coconut Creek has a comical name because it is actually downwind from a huge garbage dump that has the most awful methane smell. You almost feel nauseous with each breeze. It's a shame because the park itself has some nice things going on. On weekends there are pony rides from 11-3 for $3, where kids under 52 inches can be led by their parents on a pony around a small loop. It's fun for kids to experience sitting on a pony. The loop is so short though, and you spend more time waiting in line at the end for the riders in front of you to get off than you do actually riding around the loop.
Bigger kids can ride a horse for an hour on a trail with a guide for $30. The horse bounce house is fun for kids and only costs $1.50. There is a great playground with shade and lots of fun slides and ladders. And on the third complete weekend each month there are steam train rides that go a long distance around the park (not much shade) for $1, from 10-4 Sat and Sun.
At Tradewinds Park South you can visit Butterfly World (expensive but worth it) where magical butterflies from all over the world flutter around you! And you can play on a huge playground by the lake. Sometimes the air smells better at one park over the other, depending on the direction of the breeze.
