It's blissful to walk in the morning along the Stuart Boardwalk (signs call it the Healthy Trail) which takes you along the waterfront in downtown Stuart. The walk is about a mile one way.

Start the walk at Colorado Ave Park. Here there's a quaint house on the water, and a winding path with vistas of docks along the shore. The walk then takes you out on the water on a wooden boardwalk along the intracoastal, in front of the waterfront cafes such as Stuart Boathouse and the beautiful sound stage with its blue sail canopies. There is a pier that you can take way out onto the water, past slips with boats. The boardwalk continues past oyster restoration areas where there are lots of fish. We saw catfish, stripey tropical fish, a sting ray, elegant jellyfish, and a big snook. You pass Flagler Park and its grass shacks and coconut trees. Take a little detour on the walking path shaded by the Federal Highway overpass. It is a wide breezy space with blue lampposts and views of the railway bridge. Then continue on the boardwalk, under Dixie Highway (be careful at high tide) to the harbor. Walk past the boats. The path ends at Gilbert's Coffee Bar, the perfect place to sit and have a tea and coconut banana muffin while watching the boats in the harbor. Here, there are tables and chairs on the patio, boardwalk, and in the corner garden (though there are sometimes mosquitoes). The atmosphere is just right, and the youthful staff inside make you feel welcome.
If you walk along the street, south, you will come to Shepard Park.
