Description
From City Hall, there is a sweeping view of the ocean. A statue of Father Junipero Serra, founder of California's missions, gets to enjoy this view all day long! With the entry doors swung open, one looks out on the prettiest top-of-the-world view! Inside, white marble and white decorative ceilings remind of formal days of old. The building was built in 1912 in Beaux Arts style, and all along the side of the exterior are creepy faces of Roman friars made in terra cotta. There are lovely flowers fronting City Hall.
It only takes a minute to see the inside of City Hall, so extend your outing by walking east along Poli Street. Here you will find the loveliest views of the blue, blue sea, and a mix of pretty Victorian and Queen Anne-style homes with colorful gardens. Walk back to Main Street and downtown Ventura via one of the steep streets. It feels almost like you are in San Francisco!
